nostalgia

i've been rockin' out on The Quality Object lately. i decided to take my two favorite tracks and try my hand at actually making them sound decent. it turned out pretty awesome. so here are the "mastered" versions of "Title" and "Kiss Me, Deadly":

("Title" comes up as "Titel" when you listen to it. so yeah, you may want to fix that.)

Bleed American

I will never tire of this album.

There are a lot of things that come and go in my life, but this came in years ago and has never left. It's pretty comforting to think of how long it's been around and how it's still here... being played on my ipod right now.

Tiger Cub played its last show for 6 months this past weekend. it was strange. with each song we played i thought, "this is the last time i'll play this song for half a year." that thought blows my mind. but i'm stoked to go to LA and experience everything there. it will be an adventure, and i'm in need of a good adventure.

i've been up all night again. groovy.

cold = Korea

it's cold. it makes me think of Korea. i found korean soup at Meijer a long time ago and just now made it. it's so good and i seriously feel i'm right back there. i miss it sometimes... it's a beautiful place.

hear that?

as much as i hate my sociology classes right now, this book is pretty damn intriguing.

it's a comprehensive study on the sociology of music. it's not an easy read, but it is an interesting one. the only thing is that i haven't decided if it's just a bunch of academic bullshit or if it's actually makes an important point. maybe i'll come back to this subject once i finish it.

library patrol

been in the library for 7 hours so far today. will be here a lot longer. i've listened to every Snow Patrol album save one which i am currently downloading. i never knew i liked them so much.

"Run" is the first song i ever heard by them. Austin told me to listen to it. it's beautiful. the video reminds me of the time my friends and i went out to a graveyard at 3am and lit a bunch of road flares and ran around.

weekend goodness

i went over to Purdue this weekend to spend time with my good friends there. it was anything but disappointing. Friday night we ordered tons of Pizza and just spent time talking and watching ridiculous TV. Saturday seemed like it was going to be a whole lot of nothing but then we randomly found out that Maps & Atlases was playing just down the road that night. AWESOME!

So we went out and saw them (which was incredible) and then Shane and I decided to go out to some bars. Hilarious. One of my favorite things ever is people-watching, so bars and clubs are like mecca for me. I guess this is why i have a sociology minor... i love watching people and analyzing what they do.

then to top off the night there were these two girls who thought (for some reason that is far beyond my understanding) that it would be fun to hang out with me, shane, austin, grant, and jon for the rest of the night. we had tons of fun with them. it's been a really long time since i've met random people and had such a good time with them. really fun and encouraging.

pretty stoked right now, but not stoked on the idea of the upcoming week. such a busy schedule. thumbs down to college.

set that crown on the ground

i just survived the closest thing to academic hell week. lots of projects and papers. i still have a lot to do, but the brunt of it has passed and i'm happy for that.

i listened to this song 5 or 6 times in past 24 hours. it's the song "Crown on the Ground" by Sleigh Bells. i described it to a friend as MIA taking ecstasy with Ratatat and recording stuff on a crappy microphone.

(for some reason the song isn't showing up. bummer. click here to listen to it.)

so i have this World Lit class and we're reading Voltaire right now. i love it. it's funny, powerful, and really far ahead of its time. the man himself:

the more i read of Voltaire the more i feel like i'm reading a book full of Monty Python sketches. i brought that up in class and my professor was so stoked i thought that. he was like "yes! i thought the same thing!" I love that class. it's the only class i truly love this semester.

today i finished writing 8 pages on Max Weber. interesting fellow. he was a famous sociologist who wrote this book that is pretty dang interesting:

It's called "The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism." Sometimes i regret the fact i picked up a Sociology minor, but there are other times where it's really intriguing.
