weekend goodness

i went over to Purdue this weekend to spend time with my good friends there. it was anything but disappointing. Friday night we ordered tons of Pizza and just spent time talking and watching ridiculous TV. Saturday seemed like it was going to be a whole lot of nothing but then we randomly found out that Maps & Atlases was playing just down the road that night. AWESOME!

So we went out and saw them (which was incredible) and then Shane and I decided to go out to some bars. Hilarious. One of my favorite things ever is people-watching, so bars and clubs are like mecca for me. I guess this is why i have a sociology minor... i love watching people and analyzing what they do.

then to top off the night there were these two girls who thought (for some reason that is far beyond my understanding) that it would be fun to hang out with me, shane, austin, grant, and jon for the rest of the night. we had tons of fun with them. it's been a really long time since i've met random people and had such a good time with them. really fun and encouraging.

pretty stoked right now, but not stoked on the idea of the upcoming week. such a busy schedule. thumbs down to college.

set that crown on the ground

i just survived the closest thing to academic hell week. lots of projects and papers. i still have a lot to do, but the brunt of it has passed and i'm happy for that.

i listened to this song 5 or 6 times in past 24 hours. it's the song "Crown on the Ground" by Sleigh Bells. i described it to a friend as MIA taking ecstasy with Ratatat and recording stuff on a crappy microphone.

(for some reason the song isn't showing up. bummer. click here to listen to it.)

so i have this World Lit class and we're reading Voltaire right now. i love it. it's funny, powerful, and really far ahead of its time. the man himself:

the more i read of Voltaire the more i feel like i'm reading a book full of Monty Python sketches. i brought that up in class and my professor was so stoked i thought that. he was like "yes! i thought the same thing!" I love that class. it's the only class i truly love this semester.

today i finished writing 8 pages on Max Weber. interesting fellow. he was a famous sociologist who wrote this book that is pretty dang interesting:

It's called "The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism." Sometimes i regret the fact i picked up a Sociology minor, but there are other times where it's really intriguing.

Swim

i've been listening to the song "Swim" by Surfer Blood almost nonstop lately. i love it so much. makes me think of Away With Vega, Boston (the band), and summertime at the beach. take a listen:

huh?

Creed is playing on Conan tonight. all i have to say to that is WHAT THE HELL?!? you cannot tell me that anyone on this planet still listens to Creed. i mean, it's hard enough to believe anyone ever did in the first place.

this is a new low Conan.... a new low.

nick and norah's

just watched Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. it was kinda disappointing. my favorite part was the gay dudes... is that bad? oh well.

now it's time to decide if i spend the next hour or two doing homework or if i just dick around, go to bed, and worry about all that school stuff in the morning.

hmmmmmmmm...

what i'm up to

so this has been my life the last few days...

  • Thursday - went and saw Neon Indian in Bloomington. he, along with the rest of his band, were really good. definitely a fun and dancy time.

  • Friday (last night) - The twins and I played a midnight show in Anderson at a pancake house called The Flop (incredible place!!). It was most definitely one of the best shows we have ever played. well, we actually didn't play that well, but everyone was having a good time and a lot of our friends were there, so that ruled.

  • Tonight - Tiger Cub is playing another show tonight at our friend Lindsey's house here in Upland. I can only hope it will be as fun as last night. After the show I'm going to head down to Muncie for a party at T-Rex. I love Halloween.

  • Tomorrow - i don't want to think about it. so much homework.

along with that, a Tiger Cub EP is coming close to completion. hopefully it will be out in the next couple of weeks. it'll be free, so i'll throw a link up for you to download it when that happens.

i must say, i find myself increasingly in a good mood these days. which kind of blows my mind because i don't usually have good reason to be. i'm so far behind in school it's scary, the one girl i really care about i can never be with, and i'm really sick of living in this place... but somehow i'm feeling pretty good. i think it has a lot to do with the fact that i've been working to start talking to God again. At the beginning of the semester it was to that point where i didn't even feel like i could open up to Him. i'm sure you know the feeling, it sucks for sure, but now i'm getting back to the point where i can have a conversation with Him. i'm so glad He's always there for me and will take me back at any time no matter how undeserving i am. i don't know what i would do without that love.

fall break time

fall break starts after classes on Thursday, but all my professors decided to cancel Thursday classes, so i guess my break starts after classes tomorrow. here's my fall break plans:

  • Thursday - go see Girl Talk in Bloomington... for free! so stoked

  • Friday - take my parents to the airport/prepare for recording

  • Saturday and Sunday - record the new Tiger Cub EP

hopefully it will be a lot of good times and also pretty chill. ever since i learned that i was accepted to study film in LA next semester, my motivation has dwindled significantly. i just want to get out there. i'll be living here:

i mean, do you blame me? who can concentrate when they have that to look forward to?

i have a lot of other stuff that i could talk about, but i have too much coffee in me and i feel like i need to go walk around for a while.

later,
Siberian

Robert Dorman

my Grandpa died today. his name was Robert Dorman. I'll write more about it some other time... after i've had a little while to digest it.

Sincerely,

Osteoferocious

just thought i'd say a few words about some great dudes and a great band. Aaron Bragg and Erik Fox are two of my good friends and last year they decided to form a sweet band. They named it Osteoferocious, which is genius. This weekend i saw them play two shows and record a new song, and it ruled hard. Especially recording. I'm so psyched to get me some Osteo recordings. Musically and lyrically i love their songs and they're both rad people, so here's to you Osteoferocious:

and i'm totally getting an Osteo tattoo. yeah!

Sincerely,
Siberian
